Why a range and not a number
Any app that tells you your grandmother's vase is worth exactly $247 is guessing and hiding that it is guessing.
Kist always shows a range, always shows how confident the model actually is, and every result carries the same line: this is an AI estimate, not a professional appraisal. When it does not know, it says so with a wide range and a low confidence score instead of inventing precision.
Being honest about uncertainty is the harder product decision. It is also the whole point.

Questions
Is Kist free?
Yes, for the first five identifications, and no credit card is asked for them. After that, Pro unlocks unlimited identifications. Everything else in the app is free forever.
Do I need an account?
No. Kist opens straight into your collection. There is no sign up and no login.
Is this an appraisal?
No. It is an AI estimate, and every result says so. For insurance, probate or a sale of real value, get a certified appraiser. Kist is for knowing whether something is worth that trip.
What is Kist bad at?
Heavily reproduced categories. Brass, silver plate, and anything where a 1970s reproduction photographs identically to the 1890s original. In those cases it returns a wide range and a low confidence score, which is the correct answer and not a satisfying one.
Where does my collection live?
On your device, and in your own iCloud if you have it on. You can export the whole thing to CSV or PDF at any time, on the free tier too.
What do I need to run it?
An iPhone or iPad on iOS 18 or later.
