Kist
Last updated: August 2026
Introduction
Kist helps you identify antiques and second-hand objects and keep a personal collection. We built Kist to respect your data. This policy explains what we collect and what we do not.
Photos you identify
When you ask Kist to identify an object, the photo (or photos) you choose are sent over an encrypted connection to our backend, which forwards them to third-party AI vision providers (currently Anthropic and Google) to identify the object and estimate a value range. Our backend does not store your photos: it processes the request and returns the result. Under the providers' API terms, this image data is used only to produce your result and is not used to train their models.
Your collection
The objects you save (photos, notes, values) are stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud, they also sync to your private iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit. That data lives in your Apple account; we cannot read it.
Purchases
Subscriptions (Kist Pro) are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. We only learn whether an active subscription exists so the app can unlock Pro features.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand which features are useful, Kist collects anonymous usage events (for example, "an identification was completed" or "a collection was exported") through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. These events never include your photos, the contents of your collection, or anything that identifies you personally. The device identifier is anonymized (hashed) on your device before anything is sent, and it is not used for tracking. You can turn this off at any time in Settings, under "Share anonymous usage data".
Crash reports
If the app crashes, a technical report (the error trace, device model, iOS version and app version) is sent to Sentry so we can find and fix the problem. Crash reports are diagnostic only: they contain no photos and no collection data, and they are not linked to your identity or used for tracking.
What we do not do
No ads. No advertising SDKs and no cross-app tracking. We do not sell your data. We do not build advertising profiles. The only third-party services involved are the ones described above: AI identification, Apple, anonymous statistics and crash reports.
Data retention and deletion
You control your data: delete any object in the app, and delete the app to remove its local data from your device. Manage or delete iCloud data through your Apple account settings.
Children's privacy
Kist is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.
